MSc Logistics And Supply Chain Management

SKEMA Business School

Program Outline
lscm-optimised.jpgThis MSc program is designed for practicing professionals, mid-career managers and graduates seeking specialized training in the complementary fields of Supply Chain Management and Project Management at Managerial level. The MSc consists of eight months of courses (from September until April), followed by a six-month placement in a multinational company.

Globalization, outsourcing, shorter product life-cycles, and increased customer orientation are issues that considerably influence businesses today. Logistics has become a key factor of success for improving productivity and performance. However, there is a clear shortage of managers who can understand the complexity of logistics issues, diagnose specific problems, and who are able to challenge existing business practices to put innovative logistic solutions in place.

The SKEMA MSc in L&SCM provides a unique opportunity for acquiring a specialist qualification in the area of logistics, combined with a generalized one in Project Management.

The whole curriculum is designed to reinforce the cross-functional competencies needed to manage in the global supply chain environment. The first semester (Sept- Dec) will be devoted to acquiring the foundation knowledge on supply chain management and logistics, including Strategic Supply Chain Management, Logistics Design & Planning, Supply Chain Technology, as well as Project Management. Supply chain being a transversal approach, other parts of business management will be covered: Strategy, Globalization as well as Research methods.

Once students have learned theory, heavy emphasis is placed during the 2nd semester (Jan- April) on practical, real-world application of that knowledge so graduates hit the ground running from the first day on the job. In particular, students gain hands-on experience of a global logistics assessment and improvement tool: “MMOG/LE” (see below). They become familiar with a supply chain risk web-based program allowing identification, prediction and management of supply chain risk through various tools and techniques for risk auditing / mapping. Through a module called “strategy in action”, they will go through specific examples of logistic strategies and reengineering exercises with a specific emphasis on business ethics and sustainable supply chain management.

The teaching methods seek to develop diverse managerial skills and attitudes such as leadership, creative problem solving, analysis, decision making, communication and team-building. Many sessions are delivered by experts (Thales, Ernst&Young, IBM among others).

Why Choose This Program?
Upon completion, a dual qualification in Logistics & Supply chain and in Project Management is provided. Students have the opportunity to get the CAPM® professional Certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI), a recognized competency in Project Management.

Students also complete a six-month work placement in companies and write a dissertation that strengthens their practice of a supply chain “hot topic”. All these qualifications and experience add up to make their CV precisely what employers are looking for.

Our classes are kept small to better meet individual needs and to maximize the teaching’s impact. A high degree of diversity among teachers and students regarding nationality, gender, age, profession and industry sector also contributes to the enriching environment. Teachers on the program are high-profile, international teachers who have both B academic and professional backgrounds. Having teachers with this profile means we always back up theoretical concepts with real-life experience and applications.

Embedded in the program is close collaboration with the business world. Companies on the French Riviera and in the Sophia Antipolis technology park welcome our students to undertake real life supply chain projects. Logistics and purchasing directors of multinational companies, (including IBM, Koné, Thales, Dow Corning, Façonnable, GALIA) have helped design this program and they also contribute as guest speakers on this MSc. Through this collaboration, students get frequent exposure to the reality of business and current supply chain management challenges.

All courses and seminars are entirely delivered in English, allowing students to have a perfect command of the business and technical terminology that is expected from supply chain managers in multinational companies. This attracts students from all over the world, providing a truly multicultural experience.

MMOG/LE (Materials Management Operations Guideline Logistics Evaluation) :
Students are trained to operate a logistics self-assessment tool that is used worldwide, Global MMOG/LE. Designed by the world’s leading automotive industry associations - AIAG USA, GALIA France, ODETTE Europe. This tool may be applicable to any industry, and improves supply chain practices by enhancing logistics efficiency while reducing costs from error and waste.
